15-year-old Norwegian Anna is a young woman with a fighter's heart. Because she knows that her future and everyone else's is at stake, she is committed to protecting the planet. But she increasingly doubts that her actions are of any use at all. When she is haunted by mysterious and dark visions of the future, she decides to get to the bottom of them. The unimaginable happens: Anna suddenly ends up in the year 2082, where she barely recognizes her climate-disaster-ravaged Norway. In her search for a way back, she meets her future self: an old, cynical woman who has long since given up the fight against the climate crisis. But there is also Nova, Anna's granddaughter, who has not yet lost her confidence despite the sheer hopelessness of the situation...
I wrote the music for over a year.
Initially, several musical themes were written: Anna, Nova, the village, Flareguns, Grandma and the Scavengers were given a motif, then I worked with director Jonathan to see which parts of the movie needed music. We decided that we also wanted to depict Anna's character development on a musical level. The music should initially be quite unmotivated - just like Anna - and have a kind of defiant attitude. In the course of the movie, the music should then shift to a more heroic music that tells the story of the fight. The Anna motif also develops further and further until it has a slight superhero vibe.
The instrumentation varies depending on who we are watching. Anna, the village, Nova and all the "good" ones have an orchestral sound, while the bad Scavengers have been given a fully synthetic one. This should also differentiate the characters in the music and make it immediately recognizable where we are in the film and who we are currently seeing.
